United utilizes specifically designed and constructed equipment to safely and efficiently remove the sludge. United provides a clean gas-free tank ready for “hot-work” in minimum time. United utilizes FLEX-SMART (Fast, Limited-Entry, eXcavation – Safety, Machine Aided Removal Technology) de-sludging system. United uses a proprietary machine-aided, limited-entry excavation system for the sludge removal.
Fastest and Most Efficient Method:
No other method is as fast or efficient as the FLEX-SMART system technology. The method is faster than manual excavation, chemical or biological desludging methods.
Limited Worker Entry: Confined spaces are well known as one of the most hazardous work environments. With conventional manual excavation, 20 to 50 persons with buckets and shovels are in the tank. Tragically, cases have occurred with H2S gas trapped in the sludge is suddenly freed during the excavation process
killing many of the workers. On the other hand, chemical and hot treatment takes long duration with high potential fire hazards and still too many workers at the phase of tank entry for remaining undissolved
sludge cleaning.
Minimum Tank Downtime: FLEX-SMART provides minimum tank downtime for cleanup. This is critical to efficient normal operations, thus providing minimal impact on operations.
Highest Level of Safety: Fire and explosion free environment is maintained at all times. All de-sludging equipment are run on hydraulic power. Oxygen, Carbon Monoxide and hydrogen sulfide concentrations are monitored at all times.
Minimizes Waste Generation: No chemical surfactants, water or other chemical/biological additives are used. Other methods may require addition of large quantities of chemical additives that are slow acting and generate additional waste disposal problems.
